<trans-abstract xml:lang="en"><p>The review includes the results of analytical research on the problem of application of pancreatic islet encapsulation technologies for compensation of type 1 diabetes. We present a review of modern encapsulation technologies, approaches to encapsulation strategies, insulin replacement technologies: auto-, allo- and xenotransplantation; prospects for cell therapy for insulin-dependent conditions; modern approaches to β-cell encapsulation, possibilities of optimization of encapsulation biomaterials to increase survival of transplanted cells and reduce adverse consequences for the recipient. The main problems that need to be solved for effective transplantation of encapsulated islets of Langerhans are identified and the main strategies for translating the islet encapsulation technology into medical reality are outlined.</p></trans-abstract><kwd-group xml:lang="ru"><kwd>поджелудочная железа</kwd><kwd>островки Лангерганса</kwd><kwd>инкапсуляция</kwd><kwd>трансплантация</kwd><kwd>иммуносупрессия</kwd><kwd>сахарный диабет первого типа</kwd></kwd-group><kwd-group xml:lang="en"><kwd>pancreas</kwd><kwd>islets of Langerhans</kwd><kwd>encapsulation</kwd><kwd>transplantation</kwd><kwd>immunosuppression</kwd><kwd>type 1 diabetes</kwd></kwd-group><funding-group><funding-statement xml:lang="ru">Работа выполнена при поддержке Министерства здравоохранения РФ (государственное задание № АААА-А20-120022590096-6 по теме «Создание технологии инкапсуляции островков поджелудочной железы для компенсации абсолютных инсулин-дефицитных состояний»)</funding-statement></funding-group></article-meta></front><back><ref-list><title>References</title><ref id="cit1"><label>1</label><citation-alternatives><mixed-citation xml:lang="ru">Rojas J, Bermudez V, Palmar J, Martínez MS, Olivar LC, Nava M, Tomey D et al.
